Centralia City Firemen were called to a train engine on fire early Saturday morning.

Firefighters say a Burlington Northern Railroad crew noticed the second engine of a coal train had lost power when pulling into the rail yards on North Chestnut Street.   They then discovered an electrical fire in the front portion of the engine.  The conductor shut down the engine and was able to extinguish the fire before firemen arrived.

Centralia Firemen say there was still considerable smoke coming from the engine upon their arrival.  They finished extinguishing the fire with a dry chemical extinguisher.   The fire is believed electrical in nature.

The fire call came in at 2:15 Saturday morning.  Firemen were on the scene for about a half hour.
