Couple leaps to their deaths in Bronx leaving 2 young kids behind: cops

A couple with two young kids leapt to their deaths in the Bronx, authorities said.

The bodies of the man, 35, and woman, 28, were found in the rear courtyard of 2199 Cruger Ave. around 9:15 a.m. Saturday, police said.

Detectives are “investigating all possible angles, double suicide, murder suicide,” police said.

“It looks like they jumped from the sixth floor,” an NYPD spokeswoman said.

The man “may have had a mental health issue” that fueled the incident, a police source told The Post.

He’d appeared angry Friday, neighbors and the building superintendent’s wife said — and Saturday was his birthday.

“I heard some commotion, then I looked out and I saw two bodies,” said a stunned Cruger Avenue building resident who declined to give his name. “You could tell they were dead.  I was shocked. There was a lot of blood.”

The victims were a “quiet couple” who “kept to themselves,” he said, adding he would usually see them taking walks.

“It’s sad… I’m thinking about their children,” he said.

Frank Mussumeci, a construction worker, said a member of his crew was having coffee near the gate into the alleyway when “He heard a boom, like a big piece of steel … banging on the ground. Then he heard a kid screaming, ‘Mama, Mama.’ He looked over the gate and he saw two bodies there.”

The double tragedy left loved stunned loved ones, who declined to comment, hugging and sobbing on the sidewalk. The man’s devastated mother was seen wailing in pain.

The couple and their two little boys moved into the building three months ago, their next door neighbor said.

“It’s scary. The bodies are still there,” the neighbor noted.

The building super’s wife, Shadie Perkaj, said she heard “like bam!” and then screaming Saturday morning.

“I thought probably they are fighting upstairs, and probably the guy who was cleaning the garbage called the police, after five minutes the police came,” Perkaj said, adding the couple was “Albanian like us. I’ve seen them always buying things for the house, like every day together, with two kids together, we didn’t recognize there was something wrong.”

Upon reflection, Perkaj said the man was often angry, “like mean,” and the woman was “quiet.”

She believes the couple had been married for six years.

“Today was his birthday, his mom told me. He just spoke to his mom in the morning,” Perkaj said, adding he had complained about not being able to open his apartment windows.

Building worker Harold Johnson said he encountered the couple around 10:30 p.m. Friday and asked if everything was OK.

“I see his eyes are really wide, like he’s angry, and he didn’t answer me, he just pulled his wife and keep going. And that was it,” Johnson said, before adding that prior to the couple moved in, the man wanted him to cut the apartment window guards. “I tell him, ‘You got kids,  I can’t do that.’ And he get angry, he say ‘OK.’”
