Several families buried loved ones at Fletcher Cemetery say there is a mistake with their families burial placement.
When Aimee Lowery's daughter was killed in a car wreck, Lowery bought three plots next to her.
Lowery now says another person is buried there.
Aimee Lowery buried her daughter in 2016.
"She was six years old, Riyan Rae," Lowery said. "She went to Fletcher Elementary. She was very spunky and loved everybody."
Lowery brought three plots next to her for the family but in 2021, she says another woman was buried there.
"You don’t get to grieve and heal and move on from it," Lowery said. "It is an everyday reminder."
Lowery says she has asked the cemetery to move the body in her plot but nothing has been done.
Lesha Page says something similar happened to her at the same cemetery.
"He had a smile and a giggle and laugh," mom Lesha Page said. "He brought a joy into the room and everybody’s life."
Her son's plot doesn't match cemetery records.
The women say they aren't getting answers from city officials.
"I will call the mayor of Fletcher but there has not been a resolution," Lowery said. "It has a been a year and I have decided to take action by getting an attorney."
The women also hope to catch the attention of the state legislature by writing letters.
"It all boils down to respect for the families involved," Lowery said. "This is disrespect and it is wrong."
The cemetery is owned by the City of Fletcher.
The mayor directed our questions and all comments to a firm in Edmond but so far, they have not returned our emails.
