Screven County schools are back in session. Here are dates to know

Screven County students' summer break finished on Monday, Aug. 1. But it's not too soon to think about when the next break is. When does football season start? When does the first grading period end? Here are more details on the important dates to know:

School holidays

Friday, Sept. 2 is a teacher workday, so students will be off. The following Monday, Sept. 5 is a student and teacher break.

Fall break is Monday, Oct. 3, through Friday, Oct. 7.

The Thanksgiving holiday is Monday, Nov. 21, through Friday, Nov. 25. 

Christmas break starts Monday, Dec. 19. Teachers will have to come back for a workday on Monday, Jan. 2, while students return Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Friday, Jan. 13 is another teacher workday, followed by a student and teacher holiday on Monday, Jan. 16.

Winter break is Monday, Feb. 13 through Friday, Feb. 17.

Spring break is Monday, April 3, through Friday, April 7.

Students' last day of school is Friday, May 26, while teachers' last day is Tuesday, May 31.

Other important dates

Screven County Board of Education meets at 5 p.m. the second Monday of every month: Aug. 8, Sept. 12, Oct. 10, Nov. 14, Dec. 12, Jan. 9, Feb. 13, March 13, April 10 and May 8.

The first grading period ends on Friday, Sept. 30, the second on Friday, Dec. 16, the third on Friday, March 17, and the fourth on Friday, May 26.

The high school graduation ceremony is on Friday, May 19, at 6 p.m.

Screven County sports schedule

Screven County football's games kickoff at 5 p.m. The team will play:

  • South Effingham (scrimmage) at home on Thursday, Aug. 18.
  • Jenkins County away on Thursday, Aug. 25.
  • South Tattnall at home on Wednesday, Sept. 7.
  • Claxton at home on Thursday, Sept. 15.
  • Toombs County at home on Wednesday, Sept. 21.
  • Emanuel County Institute away on Wednesday, Sept. 28.
  • Bryan County away on Thursday, Oct. 6.

Screven County's softball games start at 4:30 p.m. The team will play:

  • Jenkins County at home on Thursday, Aug. 11.
  • Southeast Bulloch at home on Tuesday, Aug. 16.
  • Metter away on Thursday, Aug. 18.
  • William James away on Monday, Aug. 22.
  • Burke County away on Wednesday, Aug. 24.
  • Emanuel County Institute at home on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
  • Metter at home on Thursday, Sept. 1.
  • Emanuel County Institute away on Thursday, Sept. 8.
  • Jenkins County away on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
