More Wegmans stores going through ‘resets.’

Rochester Democrat and Chronicle

#MoreWegmansResets

A little less than a year ago, Wegmans’ Eastway, Irondequoit Plaza and Geneseo locations were among those locally that went through “resets,” grocery-industry parlance for reconfiguring and/or remodeling stores. Now the same work is underway at the Calkins Road and Geneva stores. Beyond reorganization, the changes signal the end of an era: Wegmans is phasing out designated Nature’s Marketplace sections, distinct departments set off with sunflower-logoed signage, the first of which launched in 1994 at the Hylan Drive Wegmans.

From 1997: A customer checks out vitamins in the Nature's Marketplace department at the Irondequoit Plaza Wegmans. As part of recent store "resets," Wegmans is phasing out the departments, the first of which launched in 1994, and integrating Nature's Marketplace inventory onto regular store shelves.

#NewDowntownY

A new YMCA wellness center will be opening at student-housing complex Innovation Square. The 11,000-square-foot Y will overlook the sunken recreation area outside the former Xerox Tower — once a skating rink, now repurposed into a leisure and play space. Student residents will have access to cardio and strength-training equipment as part of their rental agreements and will be able to upgrade memberships to access more benefits. Memberships also will be sold to the public, but a date has not been announced. This new Y will not replace the Carlson Metro Center Y, which closed last year. And unlike that location, the new Y will not have a pool.

#OldSchoolFitsNewSchool

The hilltop campus of the former Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School will be home to another educational institution starting this fall. Genesee Community Charter School Flour City, the newly chartered second site of a longtime charter school at the Rochester Museum and Science Center campus, will open its doors at the former divinity school. The Colgate site wasn’t GCCS’s first choice; it would have preferred to find or build another space on the museum campus. But leaders were impressed with the layout and location.

Have a great weekend, friends.

We won’t see you Monday, because this is the final edition of ROC60.
