PATRICK COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A woman is behind bars and a man is in the hospital after an argument at a Patrick County home reportedly turned into a stabbing and a vehicle theft Tuesday evening.

According to the Patrick County Sheriff’s Office, 31-year-old Ashley Dayton of Stuart arrived at a home in the 400 block of E. Blue Ridge Street in Stuart — where 44-year-old Patrick Russell lives, along with others — shortly after 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2.

Authorities say an argument escalated into a fight between Dayton, Russell, and another person at the home.

Officials tell WFXR News that Dayton pulled out a a knife, stabbed Russell in the shoulder blade, took Russell’s vehicle, and left the scene before law enforcement arrived.

The sheriff’s office says Dayton was arrested approximately 15 minutes later at Cedar Square apartments. She is being held without bond in the Patrick County Jail for charges of malicious wounding and grand larceny.

Meanwhile, as of Thursday, Aug. 4, Russell is in stable condition at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in North Carolina, according to authorities.
