A Hitchcock County man has died following a crash near McCook Wednesday morning.
According to the Red Willow County Sheriff’s Office, just before 10 a.m., law enforcement was called to a one-vehicle rollover crash near mile marker 82 on Highway 6/34 west of McCook.
The investigation found that a dual-axle farm truck was eastbound on Highway 6/34 loaded with corn when it had a tire malfunction, causing it to veer into the westbound lane of traffic and roll onto its side into the north ditch, where it then rolled onto its top, spilling its load in the process.
The lone occupant of the farm vehicle, Patrick Bryan Grossman, 48, of Hitchcock County, became pinned inside as bystanders rushed to assist. Fires started near the truck and bystanders attempted to extinguish the fire.
Upon arrival, McCook Fire was able to extinguish the fire, but Grossman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Next of kin has been notified.
The truck and corn were a total loss.
