MENOMINEE, Wis. (WFRV) – The Menominee City Police Department has released more information regarding the situation that led to two arrests on Thursday.

According to a release, around 7:15 a.m. on Thursday morning, officers were sent to a residence on 18th Avenue in Menominee Township for a report of domestic assault and the brandishing of a firearm.

After arriving on the scene, officers were alerted that a male subject was armed with a handgun and had barricaded himself inside the residence after pointing the firearm at another individual.

Law enforcement established a perimeter around the residence while a Menominee County Sheriff’s Office negotiator attempted to contact the individual to request a peaceful surrender.

Neighboring residents were made aware of the situation and were ordered to either shelter in place or evacuate for a short time.

The male suspect refused the negotiator’s request, leading to the deployment of additional resources from the Marinette County Special Response Team.

Negotiations continued into the afternoon hours of Thursday. After repeated failure to comply with law enforcement, tactical units deployed OC gas into the residence. After the gas was deployed, the male suspect exited the home unarmed and was taken into custody.

A female was also apprehended in connection to the incident and both are currently lodged in the Menominee County Jail.

The Menominee County Sheriff’s Office detectives, negotiator team, and deputies were assisted by the Menominee City Police, including K9 and Robotics Units; Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and Special Response Team; Marinette City Police and Tactical Response Unit; the Michigan State Police; Menominee County Central Dispatch, and Aurora Bay Area Paramedics.
