Archuleta County Fair Offers Something for Everyone, This Weekend

Archuleta County residents and visitors are invited to enjoy some downtime during the upcoming Archuleta County Fair, which started yesterday, Thursday August 4, and runs through this Sunday, August 7.

Fairgrounds general admission is free to all.

Animals, raised by local 4-H members, will be on display in the Hughes Pavilion throughout the fair, culminating in a Junior Livestock Auction on Saturday evening. Tickets for the ever-popular Chuck Wagon Dinner, a major 4-H fundaiser, will be on sale.

Food trucks will be open to provide snack foods and meals during your visit. The Pagosa Mountain Rotary Club will have a fully stocked beer garden of adult drinks for purchase.

A sampling of musicians from the Pagosa Springs High School’s Americana Project will present two stage events, and the Pagosa Springs Dance Academy will also give a performance. All musical performances are free to fairgoers.

New this year is an exhibition from Shred BMX, a professional BMX stunt team. A small gate fee will be charged.

Forge Martial Arts Academy will present a free demo of some of its programs.

Daily rodeo events will thrill everyone who attends. There will be Junior/Senior Barrel Races, the Bares/Broncs/Bulls event, the Open Rodeo and the Sunday Kids Rodeo. Gate entrance fees are charged for all rodeos except the Kids Rodeo.

Musical entertainment includes the bands Los Mitotitos, Jack Ellis and Out on Work Release, The Tim Sullivan Band, San Juan Mountain Boys and the Tylor Brandon Band. Take a seat for some easy listening or enjoy dancing the night away.

The exhibit halls will be filled with 4-H projects and Open Class entries including quilts, home- canned goods, painting, photog- raphy, fresh flower arrangements, cake decorating, wood working, fine arts and more.

Vendors will be on site displaying goods for sale. Visit the education booths, where local organizations will share information of interest; others will offer demonstrations on fire safety and natural resource management. Kids’ activities will be staffed by local children’s groups and offer free and/or low-cost activities. The free kids’ train will take the youngsters on a quick ride around the grounds.
