In a generous gesture, Grayson County Fiscal Court earlier this week approved a healthy donation to the Grayson County Alliance’s wide-ranging renovation efforts.

In total, the remodeling of the facility — including the much needed addition of air conditioning — will cost about $250,000 and is being completed by donated labor, including some work being done by Grayson County Detention Center inmates, as well as donated materials.

Magistrates, on Tuesday, voted to approve a $25,000 financial donation to the renovation effort.

Many people and businesses in the community are also donating labor and materials to GCA, which provides supportive food for an average of 650 Grayson County families per month (a recent slight increase in clients), making the organization vital to feeding and assisting in other ways the less fortunate men, women and children in the county.

“Our goal is to provide 10 to 15 percent of meals that families might need in a month,” Childress said. “The renovation is the next step to expand our services that will impact the health and wellness of our clients and our community.”

One key element of the renovation is the creation of a kitchen within the facility.

“The new floor plan will create a classroom space within a teaching kitchen and expand our capacity to advise and mentor clients with our food, referrals and our tax program,” Childress noted.

Childress is grateful for the kind donation from Fiscal Court, as it will assist in allowing GCA to serve Grayson County residents even more effectively than the organization previously has.

“GCA has been serving Grayson County for 21 years and we deeply appreciate the Fiscal Court supporting our efforts to continue to feed, teach, and empower Grayson County families.”
