Delta State introduces Nonprofit Management concentration and certification this fall

CLEVELAND, Miss.— With approximately 30 percent of nonprofits closing within 10 years, there is an increasing need for qualified non-profit professionals who can effectively manage the business and financial affairs of these vital organizations. Delta State University is now helping to fulfill that need with a new Nonprofit Management concentration and certificate program.

Beginning the Fall 2022 semester, a Nonprofit Management concentration will become available through the Delta State College of Business and Aviation’s Integrated Master of Business Administration online program. In addition, non-degree-seeking individuals can earn a certification in Nonprofit Management by completing six credit hours in Nonprofit Management online courses.

The new concentration and certificate program were developed following a series of meetings with Delta State faculty and local leaders to identify needs within the local community. The concentration/certification will serve as an additional opportunity for Delta State students and community members, particularly those located within the Mississippi Delta region.

“Unfortunately, many nonprofit organizations lack knowledge of how to properly operate a non-profit business,” said Dr. Deborah Moore, an adjunct Professor of Management in the College of Business & Aviation. “They often do not have the capacity to fulfill their missions without this knowledge.”

According to Moore, the nonprofit sector shows promising career growth and opportunities.

Mississippi currently has 12,080 nonprofit organizations, representing 6.4% of the state’s workforce and generating more than $9.8 billion in annual revenue.

Nationally, nonprofits have the third largest payroll in the nation, with job growth in nonprofits outpacing for-profit industries.

For those pursuing the iMBA at Delta State, the new concentration will enhance their business foundation providing knowledge and best practices for the nonprofit sector.

“We are really excited to offer a Graduate Certificate through the College of Business and Aviation. Students who aren’t enrolled in our iMBA program can obtain a certificate by taking the six Nonprofit Management courses that we will be offering” said Dr. Lisa Cooley, graduate coordinator for the iMBA and MBA programs.

“Delta State offers one of the most affordable MBAs in the marketplace. Additionally, we do not charge out-of-state tuition, and international students pay the same tuition rate that a Mississippi resident pays for full-time study.”

As a year-long, fully online program, the iMBA was developed for business professionals, managers and entrepreneurs seeking to expand their interpersonal, managerial and leadership skills in preparation for mobility, advancement and promotional opportunities.

DSU’s iMBA program has been recognized as a top MBA program nationally by both U.S. News & World Reports and Fortune. Click HERE to apply now.
