Betty McNutt, armed with one of her favorite tools, her driver, is a finalist for the national SilverSneaker member of the year award. McNutt is the ultimate active senior.

MILLERSBURG — Success breeds success.

Cheryl Seabright, owner of Cheryl’s L.I.F.E. Fitness south of Millersburg, announced another one of the regular members the SilverSneakers Classic class is up for national Member of the Year honors for the second year in a row.

Last year, two SilverSneaker members from Millersburg were recognized as national finalists in the Member of the Year contest, sponsored by Tivity Health.

Betty McNutt is a regular participant in the SilverSneakers Classic class at Cheryl’s L.I.F.E. Fitness. She also attends other classes, like tai chi or strength and balance, when she’s not on the golf course.

SilverSneakers is the nation’s leading community fitness program for seniors, and honors its members every year who positively impact and inspire others through healthy behaviors.

Class clown keeps things fun

Seabright notes McNutt is the “class clown,” and even has an exercise named after her.

“There’s never a dull moment when she is around,” Seabright said. “Betty is a positive force for those in the class, and always encourages others to attend classes. She is a perfect example of how a senior benefits from staying active and exercising.”

A former physical education teacher, McNutt, 85, likes to tease her instructors and give them grief about staying on their toes, which creates laughter for the whole class.

She also volunteers weekly at the local Salvation Army. She also enjoys travel8ing and stays active so she can have fun.

“The more active you are, the better your health, and the better your outlook on life,” McNutt said.

She adds =it is quite an honor to be chosen for the recognition, considering how many people from across the country are nominated.
