Madison County Schools remove 10 library books from shelves
The Madison County School District is taking 10 books off its library shelves.
The books will be removed from the general circulation of Madison County school libraries. Students returned to school on Thursday.
Madison County School Superintendent Charlotte Seals said the books will be placed on a controlled list of books available only to students in grades nine through 12, with parental permission.
The books were taken off the shelves in response to concerns from parents," Seals said.
"We know that parents have different viewpoints on what is appropriate for his or her child, so we try to strike that balance and try to meet that," Seals said.
The restricted books include "American Born Chinese" by Gene Luen Yang, "Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" by Sherman Alexie, "Beloved" by Toni Morrison, "Ealeanor and Park" by Rainbow Rowell, "I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter" by Erika Sanchez, and "The Hate U Give" by Angie Thomas.
