After many years serving St. John XXIII Catholic Parish, Deacons Roger Pry and Charlie Miller have decided it is time to retire. Community members are invited to join with parish members in celebrating their retirements after 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday, in the lower level, social hall. Pry has served the parish since the church was founded in 2000.

Retirement cards are welcome to be sent to them at St. John XXIII Catholic Church, 5170 Winchester Southern Road NW, Canal Winchester.

McGill Park opens

The City of Canal Winchester held a grand opening of McGill Park on Wednesday, July 27.  The park is located at 6725 Lithopolis-Winchester Road.

The city began Phase I construction of the 84-acre park in 2020. Since then, the open land has been transformed into soccer fields, a nature themed playground, walking trails, a shelter house, and more.

The grand opening allowed residents to access everything except the soccer fields, which require additional growing time to establish durability.  The fields are expected to be playable in spring 2023.

“This park has been a long time in the making, and we can’t wait to see residents using it,” says Mayor Mike Ebert.  “It’s something the community will be able to use for years and years to come, and will bring visitors in from all across Ohio.  We’re really putting ourselves on the map with this development.”

Future phases of McGill Park will add more attractions including baseball fields, a dog park, a three-season shelter house, and an event center.  Phase II construction is expected to begin next year.

McGill Park will be open daily from 6 a.m. until dusk.  All visitors are subject to follow the park rules, which can be found on the city’s website, www.canalwinchesterohio.gov.
