Huawei MatePad Paper: The multi-purpose specialist device with E Ink display

It is said that one shouldn't always be that narrow minded. So perhaps you shouldn't just disregard a tablet with a black-and-white display unless you are a hardcore mobile gamer.

In some scenarios, the E Ink technology, which is used by the Huawei MatePad Paper, offers some advantages that cannot be beat: Text is displayed very sharp without tiring the user's eyes, since it doesn't need to refresh any static images. The MatePad Paper is first designed as an e-reader, also bringing a library app and a book store.

On the other hand, the tablet uses HarmonyOS from Huawei, which is based on Android. This also means that most Android apps can be installed and used on the tablet without much trouble – as long as they don't depend on Google Services, since Huawei is still not allowed to use those.

This results in numerous usage scenarios. The included input pen also plays a role, since you can use it to take notes and create simple sketches, which works very well. You also get a cover from Huawei, even though that could be better in protecting the tablet from slipping.

The performance of the Huawei MatePad Paper is completely sufficient, and the battery lasts for several days, even if you use it fairly intensively. It even has speakers that sound fairly decent, allowing you to enjoy listening to music or audio books.

While you have to get used to the slow response times of the touchscreen, the inputs still work fairly reliably.

So this isn't necessarily a tablet for every usage scenario but could be an interesting addition and a blessing for all those bothered by PWM. In Europe, you can purchase the tablet directly from the manufacturer for 499 Euros (~$511).
