Fired Alabama police officer facing federal charges for allegedly assaulting inmate

Jason Scott Meade

A fired Alabama police officer is now facing federal charges in addition to the state crimes he was charged with for allegedly beating an inmate at the Citronelle City Jail, according to court records.

Jason Scott Meade, a 43-year-old Semmes resident who was fired from the Citronelle Police Department amid the assault allegations, was charged last week with deprivation of rights under color of law in federal court in Mobile, records showed.

On Oct. 8, 2019, Meade allegedly struck an inmate, only identified in court records with the initials B.K., in the groin with a baton, according to the federal indictment filed against the former officer.

Meade pleaded not guilty to the charge during his arraignment Tuesday, records showed.

He is facing state assault charges in connection with the beating in Mobile County District Court, where the case has been sent to a grand jury.
