Female found dead in Fort Smith drainage ditch Wednesday
Female fled a retail area in crisis, discovered nearby

The body of a female person was found in a Fort Smith drainage ditch along Wheeler Avenue Wednesday afternoon.
About 4 p.m. officers were called to a Dollar General about a female in crisis. The female fled the area, police were told and she was then found in the creek at Wheeler and Y Street, Fort Smith police reported in a news release.
Officers were investigating the death Wednesday afternoon and asked people to avoid the area. Alternative routes for motorists were advised.
