The Cubs are back in action tonight for their second game after the trade deadline. Of course, the lineup remains largely unchanged as the deadline deals all revolved around the bullpen. Here’s David Ross’ lineup for Game 2 at Busch Stadium.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Rafael Ortega, DH
- Willson Contreras, C
- Ian Happ, LF
- Seiya Suzuki, RF
- Nico Hoerner, SS
- Patrick Wisdom, 1B
- Zach McKinstry, 3B
- Nick Madrigal, 2B
- Chris Morel, CF
SP: Justin Steele, LHP
Nick Madrigal is back from his rehab and starting at second base for the Chicago Cubs tonight. Frankly, I had hoped his time at Triple-A Iowa would last a little longer, especially because his lack of power (.333 SLG) actually produced just a 98 wRC+ (below average), despite hitting .308 with a .372 OBP.
Obviously, we know power is not his game, but that’s exceedingly low production, especially for Triple-A. Clearly, the Cubs were not interested in using his rehab as a cover for a good long stretch in the minors. Which, well. Okay then.
Beyond that, we’ve got a little lineup change tonight, with Zach McKinstry continuing to flex is positional versatility with a start at 3B, pushing Patrick Wisdom over to 1B.
Rafael Ortega is tonight’s DH, which means Willson Contreras is behind the plate and Chris Morel is in center.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ post closer to game time (6:45 CT).
