The Simpson County Board of Supervisors met Monday, August 1, 2022 for their regular scheduled meeting.

Buddy Wolverton, County Engineer, reported the status of State-Aid & LSSBP as of July 31, 2022

Sheriff Paul Mullins presented the Summit invoices for the jail at a cost of $19,284.44 which was approved by the board. The board approved to pay the LeadsOnline Track Investigation 2022 renewal at a cost of $2,261.00. The board approved the MS Law Enforcement Pay Program. Eric Brown was moved to jail full time certified.

Sheriff reported the dog kennel was underway and will be finished in the near future.

The board approved the publication of delinquent 2019 land taxes and the Simpson County school board leases.

Chancery Judge Post One Candidate Albert Turnage met before the board to introduce himself and ask for consideration in the upcoming election.

Road Manger Ben Warren advised the rock and tar project is moving along weather permitting. The project is on the south end of the county at present time. County crews have began ditch work for next year projects.

A public hearing was held for the proposed objections to the 2022 real and personal property assessments at 9:00 a.m. Attorney with MS Hub was present to appeal the tax assessed value of the property. The board tabled the decision until other members can meet at the next board meeting. MS Hub is arguing the tax assessed value is much higher than what the property sold and is worth.

The replacement of cameras at the jail is in process. The board is waiting on quotes before any approval to move forward.

The board approved to stop burying animals (horses, cows, chickens, mules etc). The only time the county would help with burial would be in the case of a catastrophe. Reason for decision is due to repeat cases and time and man hours involved to leave work projects, load equipment and bury animal.
