If you're new to Oklahoma, this state has plenty of awesome things everyone must experience while they're here.

The Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial and Museum is a must. So are the Bone Museum and the Jenks Aquarium. Somewhere in the middle of those travels, you have to include the amazing OKC Zoo.

While the OKC Zoo is more famous for the Zoo Amphitheater to music lovers in Oklahoma, the animals on display are nothing to shake a stick at, literally. Some people even live here their entire lives without ever walking through our zoological park.

Thanks to the OKC Zoo's latest announcement, there's no longer a reason to skip this place. They're offering free admission through Friday, but there's a catch.

If you'd like to gather up the kiddos and head out to OKC for a free zoo trip, you have to arrive and enter the park between noon and 2 PM.

Why? Well, odds are later entries are less popular during this heat wave, but they normally don't let anyone in past 2 PM anyway. That way everyone gets a chance to see everything the zoo has to offer before closing for the evening.

Is it hot? Absolutely... but there's plenty of shade and ways to cool off as you explore and learn about the animal wonders of the world on display.

Sometimes they let you feed the giraffes. The elephants are always a great draw, such interesting creatures. Big cats are the types of animals that perfectly balance natural beauty with the fact they could effortlessly eat your face off.

While the kids will love seeing the animals, there's more for them to do also and no shortage of things to spend money on. I'm not sure if they still have the machines, but I still have the wax gorilla I spent a few quarters on some thirty years ago my first time through there.

The long and short of it is, it's free to get in between noon and 2 PM now through Friday. You only need to fund your gas up there, tolls, and probably a meal. Pack a picnic if you must, but don't miss this tremendously fun opportunity the kids will love. I'll bet it's one of the first things they'll share with their friends when school resumes in a few weeks.
