APPLETON - Severe storms caused damage and knocked out power Wednesday in northern Calumet County and the southern Fox Cites.

By Wednesday evening, power was restored to nearly all customers in the affected areas.

Damage was most severe in northern Calumet County, especially in the U.S. 10 area southeast of Appleton.

Roy Eckberg, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Green Bay, said the storm had reached wind speeds of 79 mph near Forest Junction, Kewaunee and Manitowoc.

The winds flipped three semi trucks, downed trees and power lines, and removed the roofs from several barns. One barn near U.S. 10, he said, "looked like it was demolished."

The National Weather Service in Green Bay had issued a severe thunderstorm warning from about 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. for northern Calumet, northern Manitowoc, southern Brown and southern Kewaunee counties.

And, Eckberg said, "We're not quite out of the woods yet." There's still potential for a strong storm later Wednesday, from around 3 to 7 p.m.
