Man arrested in fatal shooting outside Gurnee Mills during Thanksgiving weekend 2021

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A man allegedly involved in a fatal shooting at a Gurnee Mills parking lot in 2021 has been arrested, Gurnee police said.

Police charged 33-year-old Jesse Zumaya, of Hainesville, with aggravated battery and unlawful discharge of a firearm in connection to a shooting that left Jonathan Denicolas, of Zion, dead.

Denicolas was 26.

The Lake County News-Sun reported that the shooting happened around 2 p.m. on Nov. 27, 2021.

Zumaya was arrested on July 26, and a Lake County judge has ordered him held on $3 million bail.

The 33-year-old is currently in custody at the Lake County jail.

Police did not elaborate on a possible motive for the shooting.
