“I have a lot of great memories, a lot of great friends that I’m going to miss,” Ruf said. “But I’m very excited for the opportunity in New York. They have a great team, great players. Guys that I played against throughout my career. I’m really looking forward to that, too. It’s just a lot to take in today.”
Ruf made his MLB debut with the Phillies in 2012. This year, with the Giants, the 36-year-old outfielder/first baseman/DH is hitting .216 with 11 home runs and 38 RBI. He had been with the Giants since 2020.

According to Spotrac, Ruf is making $3 million this year, which is the same amount he’s slated to make in 2023. His deal includes a club option for 2024.
The Mets also traded for sluggers Daniel Vogelbach and Tyler Naquin as well as reliever Mychal Givens.
