WEST SALEM Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Almost one year ago, Representative Ron Kind announced he would not seek re-election. Kind hosted his 19th and final Old Fashioned Wisconsin Corn Roast in West Salem.
To celebrate, there was live music, food and games available for those who attended. Kind says hosting the corn roast for the final time is bittersweet.
At last night’s event, Kind, and US Senate candidate Mandela Barnes, emphasized how important the November election will be.
“You know people need to realize that democracy is on the ballot this year. We have a national party that only thinks the illegitimate election is the one that they win, and we can’t have that in a democracy and that’s why I think we have a very strong slate of democratic who are going to put people above politics every time.”
“We’re showing up everywhere, we’re not leaving any stone unturned and we’re doing the work that Ron Johnson refuses to do. We’re showing up in the places Ron Johnson refuses to show up and we’re most importantly talking about our values and our vision to approve quality of life for people across Wisconsin.”
Kind has been serving the third congressional district for the last 25 years. He has endorsed brad Pfaff for his seat. Next week, four democrats face off in the primary to run against republican Derrick Van Orden in November for the seat.
