Mild onshore flow Wednesday will bring yet another pleasant day with mostly sunny skies and temperatures reaching about 86 degrees, nearly average for this time of year.
The National Weather Service says the Pacific Northwest is stuck between a broad upper level trough centered around British Columbia and a ridge of high pressure pushing up from the Four Corners region of the southwest. Between these two systems the region should remain fairly dry, but not as hot as during the most recent heat wave.
Air quality in Portland has managed to remain “good” even with several fires burning in the state. Some southern and eastern parts of the state are dealing with moderate-to-poor air from wildfires. Parts of Oregon are also under a red flag warning due to high fire danger. If you’re traveling through these areas, be aware of campfire regulations, and secure all vehicle chains.
Portland will see its coolest day of the week Thursday when high temperatures may struggle to reach 80 degrees. Cloud cover will be heavy early in the day due to an increased marine air push. The afternoon should gradually clear to a mostly sunny day. Highs are likely to reach about 78 degrees.
Temperatures quickly rebound Friday as no clouds are expected. Under sunny skies, Portland should reach about 84 degrees.
The extended forecast is showing a greater chance of daytime highs climbing again this weekend. Temps in the 90s are likely Saturday through Monday as high pressure again moves back into the region. It looks like summer is not done with us yet.
