An apparently intoxicated Leitchfield woman arrested earlier this year for DUI, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct was again arrested Sunday on drug and other charges after exhibiting bizarre behavior and resisting arrest.

Sunday morning at approximately 2:15, Leitchfield Police Officers DJ Newton and Tamara Jupin and Grayson County Deputy Justin Cockerell were dispatched to the 600 block of West Main Street in Leitchfield on the report of a woman behaving suspiciously.

According to the arrest citation, a caller told Grayson County Dispatch that a van, being driven by a female, was traveling through the area with the driver yelling “from inside the vehicle, acting suspiciously and believed to be under the influence.”

Upon police arriving on scene, Newton spoke with three witnesses who said the “female in the van was screaming ‘I love you’ from inside the van” and drove down the street, twice pulling into a driveway and then backing out of the driveway before sitting “in the middle of the roadway,” the citation states.

Upon canvassing the area, police observed a van fitting the description given by witnesses parked behind a residence. As Newton exited his vehicle, he heard people talking and made contact with a male and female, identified as 49-year-old Davina M. Armstrong.

The citation states that Armstrong had “slurred speech, bloodshot, watery eyes and the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from her person.” The male talking with Armstrong told police that the two had been drinking at his residence and that Armstrong “drove him there in his van.”

Armstrong then began yelling at someone in the residence because they would not open the door.

Newton then attempted to place Armstrong in handcuffs but she resisted by pulling away from the officer, according to the citation.

After she was cuffed, Armstrong sat on the ground and had to be picked up by police and led to the cruiser. She would not enter the cruiser and “had to be placed into the car.”

While en route to jail, Armstrong began striking her head against the cruiser’s cage, as “she yelled and screamed,” the citation states.

The suspect cut her head while banging it against the cage and was initially transported to the ER for treatment.

During a post-arrest search of Armstrong’s purse, police located Gabapentin, a drug used for seizures, pain, hot flashes and restless leg syndrome that is commonly abused for its euphoric high.

After being released from the ER, Armstrong was transported to the Grayson County Detention Center where she was charged with possession of a controlled substance, prescription controlled substance not in its proper container, resisting arrest, and alcohol intoxication in a public place.

She is no longer listed an inmate.
