Lou Trivino has arrived in the Bronx and will be active for Tuesday night’s game, a few days ahead of still-teammate Frankie Montas, who will meet the Yankees in St. Louis after mourning the loss of his mother-in-law.
Trivino has struggled a bit this season, but he’s looking forward to being on the other side of the wrath of the Stadium faithful – because as he told our Sweeny Murti earlier Tuesday, he “very clearly” remembers their vitriol from the 2018 Wild Card Game.
“Like it was yesterday,” Trivino said. “It was unbelievable. It was electric, and the crowd noise was ridiculous.”
Despite that, Trivino is looking forward to becoming a fan favorite in the Bronx.
“It’s fun playing here. Even as an opposing player and getting ‘you’re a bum’ chants, it’s awesome,” Trivino said. “It’s nice to play in front of a really electric crowd, so I’m excited.”
And, in a situation that perhaps the team announcers aren’t as happy about, he’s looking forward to forming a Trivino-Trevino battery with the Yankees’ All-Star catcher.
“We played against each other in the minors a lot, and then again when he was with the Rangers, so it’s going to be fun to throw to him,” Trivino said. “He’s a talent, and it’s pretty cool we have almost the same last name.”
If he makes his Yankees debut Tuesday night, he’ll have two very important supporters on his side for sure: his parents, who made the trip up from Bucks County, Pennsylvania for the game:
