7-month-old baby ejected from car, 5 taken to hospital in crash on I-75 near High Springs

A 7-month-old baby who was ejected from a vehicle during a vehicle accident on Interstate 75 is among the five people taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, Florida Highway Patrol said Tuesday.

The driver, a 29-year-old Lake City woman, and four small children were traveling south on I-75 Monday around 3 p.m. when a rear tire on their 2004 Ford SUV blew out.

The driver then lost control of the vehicle, which flipped several times in the median near High Springs.

The baby, who was not in a car seat, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, according to FHP.

All occupants were transported to UF Health Shands for treatment of serious injuries.
