Two deputies with the Gordon County Sheriff's Office shot and killed a man during an undercover drug investigation Monday night, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
A release says this happened at about 9:30 p.m. in the area of Brookline Circle and Dews Pond Road.
The GBI says in the release, "During an undercover drug operation, one man was shot and died. No officers were injured in this incident."
The man died at the scene.
We still don't know the circumstances that led to the shooting. We have confirmed with the GBI that two deputies opened fire.
The GBI identified the man who was killed as 26-year-old Walter Lee Osborne, Jr. of Calhoun. The release earlier identified Osborne as "a man with a gun," but, again, provided no further information.
The GBI says a second, unidentified man ran away from the scene, and authorities are still looking for him.
Two guns and suspected illegal drugs were recovered from the scene, according to the release.
The GBI is now conducting an investigation into what happened, and will turn over their findings to the local district attorney.
