Hall of Fame manager Tony La Russa got roasted on social media on Monday night, when cameras caught him apparently nodding off in the White Sox dugout.
The 77-year-old, four-time Manager of the Year's eyes looked to be getting heavy in the first inning of the Royals-White Sox contest at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago.
In fairness to La Russa, the 162-game MLB slate can be notoriously grueling, and this season in particular seems especially taxing with a week's worth of missed games due to the lockout being crammed into the schedule.
But the White Sox opened a six-game home stand on Friday after a day off on Thursday, so it's not like they were in the midst of an unusually long stretch without an off-day.
La Russa is now in his 36th year as a manager, with a .536 winning percentage and four World Series titles on his ledger. There's no doubting his accomplishments on the bench, but given his age and apparent health issues -- he battled shingles late in his tenure with the Cardinals -- many were skeptical of his re-hiring as White Sox manager prior to last season. With the Pale Hose struggling to get on track in 2022, some baseball fans and observers have been calling for his head.
