Candidates can now file for November North Lawrence, Mitchell school board races

Candidates for Lawrence County’s school board seats can now file to run in the Nov. 8 general election as of July 27. 

The window to file closes at noon Aug. 26. Anyone who wishes to run will be required to obtain a minimum of 10 signatures on a prescribed state form. All signatures must be from a registered voter in the school district where the potential candidate resides. The registered voter must be registered in their listed address on the petition. Each signature will be verified by voter registration employees. 

Forms are available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the Lawrence County Voter Registration Office in the Courthouse Plaza, 918 16th St., Suite 200, Bedford.

The office is closed from noon to 1 p.m. for lunch. 

Up for election this year are seats on both the North Lawrence Community Schools and Mitchell Community Schools boards. 

North Lawrence Community Schools , four seats

  • District 1 - Includes Precincts of Indian Creek North, Indian Creek South and Spice Valley North. Currently held by Kirsten Collier 
  • District 2 - Includes Precincts of Marshall 1, 2, 3 and Pleasant Run. Currently held by Trent Todd 
  • District 3-Includes Precincts of Guthrie, Shawswick 14A, 14B, 15A and 15B. Currently held by Bryce Bennett 
  • District 5 - Includes Precincts of Shawswick 12, 13 and the west side of State Road 37 in Shawswick 7A, 7B, 10 and 16. Currently held by Dr. Kamal Girgis 

As of noon Friday, only Collier has filed to run in this year's election.

Mitchell Community Schools , two seats

  • District 2 - Includes Precincts of Marion 1, 2, 3, 4, 5A, 5B, 5C & 6. Currently held by Christopher Shaw and Cindy Fleener Brooking.
