Another week, another comment about The Masked Singer from Dave Hughes. This time the comedian has been offering his thoughts on the departures of former judges Jackie O, Urzila Carlson and Dannii Minogue.

According to Hughesy, the trio likely left the reality show because they suffered from more “parental guilt” due to outdated gender roles.

“I love the show and I have a very understanding wife who does the lion’s share of the work at home, so maybe gender plays a role there,” Hughesy said in an interview with TV Week earlier this week.

“Maybe I have less parental guilt than the mums on the panel,” he added. I wonder what Jackie, Ursula and Dannii would say to that statement.

If anyone’s wondering, Hughesy and his wife Holly Ife share three children together. As well as being a mother, Holly is also an established author and journalist.

On the forthcoming season of The Masked Singer, the comedian will be joined by three other female judges in Mel B, Abbie Chatfield, and Chrissie Swan. While Abbie doesn’t have any children, Mel B and Chrissie both have three.

In the same TV Week interview, Hughesy hailed the new trio for being “really energetic, enthusiastic, super-invested and fantastic,” which sort of flies in the face of his previous comments about Mel B.

During an appearance on The Project last month, he said “I know why Scary Spice is called Scary Spice” about the Spice Girls star.

“I love her, and she knows it, but me and her have a relationship going. She told me to beep off in our first meeting,” he added.

According to Hughesy, the pair butted heads due to their equally strong personalities. “Because I’ve got my own ideas and she has hers, and sometimes they clash. I love her though. And she knows I love her,” he considered.
