Lubbock woman killed, 2 injured in King County crash

A 71-year-old woman from Lubbock was killed and two other people were injured in a single-vehicle crash Sunday evening in King County.

Vicki Rutledge Helton was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that was reported just after 6 p.m. Sunday on U.S. Highway 82 about 6.4 miles east of Guthrie, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Investigators believe she was driving a 2004 Ford Expedition west on U.S. 82 when the vehicle drifted to the right side of the roadway, crossed the improved shoulder and traveled onto the grass area north of the highway. The vehicle went into a skid and rolled before coming to a rest.

The passengers - 72-year-old Patrick Lynn Helton and an 11-year-old boy, both of Lubbock - were hospitalized.

Other factors contributing to the crash were unclear as the investigation is ongoing.
