Christian Eriksen says Tottenham didn't offer a return before he joined Manchester United

The transfer saga involving Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has continued through the start of August, but a different noteworthy individual has made it known he's delighted to have signed for the club ahead of the upcoming season.

Midfielder Christian Eriksen joined United on a three-year contract last month in the latest step of his remarkable comeback from the cardiac arrest he suffered at the UEFA European Championship in June 2021. The 30-year-old featured for Tottenham Hotspur from 2013-20 and played under current Tottenham boss Antonio Conte while with Serie A side Inter Milan, and he had been linked with a return to his old Premier League team throughout the spring. However, he claims that Tottenham never tabled an offer regarding his services.

"It was only talk," Eriksen said of rumors about possibly re-joining Tottenham, according to Rob Dawson of ESPN. "They never really came with anything so it wasn't really a thing for me to go back to Tottenham at the time and Man United were very early on, very positive and I had good conversations.

"It was very positive from the first few phone calls already and the club felt like they wanted me, so it was on for a long time."

Eriksen started for manager Erik ten Hag in Sunday's friendly against Rayo Vallecano that ended 1-1 and added he will be available for selection for this coming Sunday's Premier League season opener against Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford.

"I feel good," Eriksen remarked. "I'm always most pleased when preseason has finished and the season starts and then you know your condition is where you hope it should be.

"It's been good, I've been taken good care of by the group and I've been getting my minutes in and I'm really trying to slot in as quickly as possible to the first team."
