Law enforcement agencies in West Virginia are donating retired vehicles to the Whitesburg Police Department in Kentucky. Officers there lost at least seven cruisers to devastating flooding last week, according to a social media post from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
Boone County deputies report they plan to deliver a cruiser to officers in Whitesburg on Tuesday while the Hurricane Police Department delivered a vehicle on Sunday.
“We always try to reach out. That’s the beauty of living in southern West Virginia, more specifically in Boone County,” Sheriff Chad Barker told Eyewitness News. “People always come together. People always have their way of showing their support whether it be through water, cleaning supplies, vehicles or whatever is needed. Our folks always band together and do the right thing.”
Deputies in Boone County are collecting cleaning supplies for Kentucky flood victims. Those interested in making a donation may drop off supplies at the sheriff’s office located on the second floor of the Madison Municipal Courthouse.
"One day we will be on the other end and hopefully those folks will help us as well," Barker said.
The City of Hurricane will also collecting donations of water and cleaning supplies, according to a social media post from Mayor Scott Edwards. Donations may be dropped off at the Hurricane Fire Department Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
