Sheriff Grady Judd needs to fix his Animal Services today!

Editorial

Polk County Animal Services, “Operating beyond an organization’s capacity for care is an unacceptable practice.”

“It is an unacceptable practice to spray down kennels or cages while animals are inside them.” The Lakeland Gazette that this is routinely done at Animal Control, and the practice is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!

“Each animal’s individual health status should be evaluated and monitored beginning at intake and regularly thereafter.”

Some Cats and Dogs NEVER GET AN EXAMINATION! And, clearly, the “regularly thereafter,” is not being followed, as the Lakeland Gazette told that it is not uncommon to find animals deceased in their cages.

Sheriff Grady Judd

The issues must be fixed so, Grady it’s up to you!

Sheriff if you feel that you can’t run this department correctly then turn it over to the County Commissioners to have a new department outside the Sheriff’s office.

  1. Unacceptable especially when he is an official officer! It’s like if you was sprayed down at a car wash being hosed down! It’s animal cruelty and your no better then the ones that does this ACT!
Justice is needed and Penalty for his actions!

  2. People who can’t find compassion within to treat animals humanly, are not always compassionate with humans, either. I’m sure it’s a difficult task to deal with such a big county! Sheriff Judd does many thing well.
Relieve him of this duty, make Animal Control a separate Dept.!

  3. This’s unexceptionable & cruel! The Republican County Commission needs to give Animal Control to another County Agency! My dad was Asst County Administrator for Hillsborough County & animal control was just one of the many Departments that he was over. They should be giving these pets to new homes every day. More people are adopting pets instead of buying them. During the Pet-a-thon you can adopt a pet for $25 which includes shots, neutering/spaying & microchip but it’s only 1 day a year! Open it up to EVERYDAY!

    1. Just so you know we adopted our dog from the Falkenburg Rd animal facility and he is scared to death of the hose. Bottom line all those county facilities hose out the cages! They all need to checked.

  4. Can someone volunteer to this department to help? My daughter and I volunteer at a personally owned zoo and it’s helpful to the animals and the owner.

  5. why!? why treat them this way. they have feelings too! to see that poor kitten in a cage passed away makes me sick!!!

  6. They need to close the place if it can’t be run properly!! This is a long death for these poor animals having to suffer!!

  7. I was a trustee at animal control for almost 4 months and I took the job as CatMan taking care of every cat and kitten that came there. I made it my goal to get every cage cleaned every day before we went back to the jail around 5:00pm. We worked 7 days a week. I can’t even count how many cats and kittens that were euthanized every week while I was there. Some days they would put down between 40-&- 80 cats and have them all laid out dead in the walkway of the other cages. Here’s the real sad part and if you think I’m making this up well you have never been more wrong in your entire life. They would put 3-4-5 or maybe 6 cats in white trash bags and put them in the freezer. When the freezers were full Grady Judd would have a guy come in a semi truck and load them up and take them to be sold and the sheriff department got a percentage what they got for them. I only handled one dead kitten that I named tilt because he had neurological problems and his head stay children in one side.. I was to inform the so called vet if I seen a sick animal. I told three different people in one day that tilt wasn’t doing very good and they all said well he’ll be alright. The next morning I got there and went straight to his cage to check on him and he was dead. I’m a cat lover but that is the most heartbreaking place I have ever seen in my entire life. I could go on and on and on about animal control. But I hope everyone gets the point I’m trying to get access. Something needs to be done positive. They drive around in big nice trucks with computers in them and set traps just to take them and kill them. They will all rot in hell and I pray they all get haunted by all the animals that they killed for no reason. Oh if you’re animal has a chip they don’t always notify you. They kill them so fast they have killed about 300 that had chips and they didn’t realize it until after they euthanize it and there’s no way to bring it back.. sorry you had to find this out but I swear on my life every word of this is 110%true.

  8. What are they supposed to do with them all? I looked at all the Lost pets on the web site the other day and there are hundreds of them. It’s pitiful.. More people need to volunteer. More people need to donate money. They are overwhelmed with the number of animals coming in there.
