Road construction roundup: These Ohio and local projects could detour your commute

With summer comes prime weather for construction.

A slew of state and local roadway projects are ongoing or slated in the coming months throughout Wayne, Ashland and Holmes counties.

Here are some of the projects that could affect your daily commute.  

Dix Expressway rehabilitation project

A winding exit to state Route 3 from the Wooster bypass is now open.

State Route 83 from south of U.S. Route 30 to Milltown Road will have daily lane closures for interchange, shoulder, ramp and pavement replacements, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation

Rehab:State Route 83 reconstruction has begun, don't expect it to fully reopen until late 2023

The entrance ramps from Cleveland Road are closed with no estimated date to reopen.

Cleveland Road and state Route 83 from north of state Route 585 to Milltown Road will place northbound traffic on the southbound side of the road for pavement removal.

Those lanes will be separated with a concrete barrier. 

The estimated completion date is October 2023.

U.S. 30 culvert repair to close lane

U.S. Route 30 between U.S. Route 250 and Fry Road will have single-lane closures for a culvert repair project, according to ODOT.

Closures will begin Friday, Aug. 5. 

State Route 3 bridge getting a paint job

State Route 3 between the U.S. Route 250 and U.S. Route 30 interchange and Columbus Avenue will have lanes closed as crews paint the bridge. 

The estimated completion is September 2022.

Railroad repair to close Elton Road 

Between Monday, Aug. 1, and Aug. 5, crews will repair the railroad crossing on Elton Road at the Wayne-Stark county line. 

State Route 241 to Alabama Avenue is the recommended detour, according to the Wayne County Engineer's Office. 

Detour for Barnard Road in Wayne County

Barnard Road between state Route 250 and Ely Road in East Union Township will be closed for 30 days starting Monday.

Construction crews will replace the bridge crossing Apple Creek.

The recommended detour is state Route 250 to Apple Creek Road to Ely Road and reverse. Detour signs will be posted.

U.S. Route 250 roundabout update

Construction work on the roundabout at state Route 60 and Faultless Drive and the U.S. route 250 bypass continues.

A roundabout is being installed along U.S. Route 250 at state Route 60 and Faultless Drive, once a two-way stop, according to ODOT.

The intersection is closed to motorists traveling north on state Route 60 and east from Faultless Drive while U.S. 250 remains open.

The detour is north on state Route 60 to state Route 511 and west on U.S. Route 250 to state Route 60, and reverse for southbound motorists. 

County Road 555, Ashland County

Part of County Road 555 in Vermillion Township is closed through Thursday, Aug. 11 for a bridge replacement project. 

Construction began on July 11, closing the road between County Road 1802 and County Road 1753.

Weather and technical issues could delay the planned reopening, according to the Ashland County Engineer's Office. 

U.S. Route 30 intersection at state Route 603

U.S. Route 30 west of Township Road 1255 will have single-lane closures as crews work at U.S. Route 30 and state Route 603, according to ODOT.

Daytime lane closures with 12-foot lanes in each direction will be maintained. ODOT said the project will be completed in August but listed no specific date.

U.S. Route 250 work, Ashland County

A project to widen and improve intersection sight distances has closed lanes along U.S. Route 250 at state Route 89. 

Now, the intersection, between township roads 523 and 355, is entirely closed for reconstruction, according to ODOT.

A detour will take eastbound drivers onto I-71 south to U.S. Route 30 and east back to U.S. 250. Westbound drivers will take U.S. 30 to state Route 60 and U.S. Route 42 back to U.S. Route 250. 

One lane of traffic will be maintained on state Route 89 for north and southbound drivers. 

U.S. Route 250 culvert replacement

Starting Monday, Aug. 1, U.S. Route 250 between Smithville Western and Camp roads will be closed for culvert replacements. 

ODOT's recommended detours are U.S. Route 250 east to I-71 south to U.S. 30 east back to U.S. 250, and U.S. 250 east to U.S. 42 south to state Route 60 to U.S. 30 east to U.S. 250 and the reverse. 

State Route 39 culvert work in Holmes County 

Construction crews will replace a culvert on state Route 39, two miles east of Loudonville starting Monday, Aug. 1.

The stretch between township roads 456 and 454 will be closed for four days, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation. 

The recommended detour is to take state Route 3 north to state Route 179 and state Route 179 south to state Route 39. 

State Route 60 closing for 10 days

State Route 60 will close for 10 days starting Sept. 20 for a slide repair project two miles north of Killbuck, according to ODOT.

The detour is state Route 60 north to state Route 39 to U.S. Route 62 south to state Route 60. 

Resurfacing work on state Route 3

Crews will resurface state Route 3, ODOT reports, closing nearly five miles from Loudonville to the Wayne and Holmes county line. 

No starting date has been determined, according to ODOT, but work will finish by Sept. 30. 

State Route 557 and state Route 643 in Holmes County

State routes 557 and 643 will be resurfaced in October closing the roads until Oct. 31, according to ODOT, which has not announced a start date. 

Route 557 will be closed from U.S. Route 62 to state Route 93.

Route 643 will close from state Route 557 to state Route 651. 

Two projects planned for Route 520

Two projects are slated for state Route 520. The first will see the culvert between east of Glenmont replaced, closing the roadway for 21 days. 

Drivers should take U.S. 62 west to state Route 514 and go north back onto state Route 520, according to ODOT.

Target date for completion is Monday, Aug. 15.

Construction crews will close state Route 520 for a slide repair project in September just north of U.S. Route 62 in Killbuck. 

The estimated completion is Sept. 30.
