Brook Mole fire burning in Montague County, 75% contained

MONTAGUE COUNTY (KFDX/KJTL) — A large wildfire is burning about 3 miles southwest of Nocona in Montague County.

UPDATE: 9:55 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2022

The latest update from the National Wildfire Coordinating Group says the Brook Mole Fire grew to 482 acres and is now 75% contained.

Local crews will remain on scene overnight to monitor the fire. Additional crews will return in the morning to mop up any remaining heat along the fire’s perimeter and patrol the fire line.


UPDATE: 7 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2022

The Texas A&M Forest Service is now saying the Brook Mole Fire is 300 acres big and 40% contained.

According to NWCG, engines are “mopping up” pockets of residual heat along the fire’s perimeter.

The latest update from the TAMFS lists the Brook Mole Fire as 300 acres large and 25% contained.

According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, the fire, named the Brook Mole Fire, is currently 300 acres big and 0% contained.

The National Wildfire Coordinating Group said the fire began around 2:20 p.m. on Friday, July 29. The fire is burning on both sides of Brook Mole Road.

The cause of the fire is listed as lightning. An estimate of 50 crew members are on scene.

Fire crews are working to hold the fire east of Eureka Springs Road with the assistance of multiple aerial resources. Dozers are securing the fire’s perimeter on both the north and south sides.

The crews are working westbound towards Eureka Springs Road.
