3 MT counties under stage 1 fire restrictions

Sign or symbol no campfire, do not light a fire.

Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks announced Friday that three Montana counties had entered Stage 1 Fire restrictions: Bighorn, Mussel, and Treasure.

Campfire and smoking restrictions are placed on FWP sites in those counties, except for the Bighorn County’s Tongue River Reservoir, where campfires will still be allowed. These restrictions also have no impact on sites in Musselshell County.

Restrictions in Bighorn county are implemented in the Rosebud Battlefield State Park. In Treasure County, three sites observe these restrictions: the Amelia Island Fishing Access Site and Wildlife Management Area, Isaac Homestead Wildlife Management Area, and the Myers Bridge Fishing Access Site.

State 1 fire restrictions prohibit building or maintaining a campfire; cooking on a portable gas stove that turns off and on is allowed. Smoking is also prohibited unless it is done in a developed recreation site in a stopped area at least three feet away in diameter and cleared of any flammable materials. It is also allowed if done inside an enclosed building.

These FWP site restrictions are in place until further notice. People who choose to recreate in these areas are advised to be cautious with the fire danger and dry conditions.
