Red Sox's Chaim Bloom: No trade talks planned regarding Xander Bogaerts, Rafael Devers

A month ago, the Boston Red Sox were 10 games above .500 and very much in the thick of things in the competitive AL East.

A few weeks later, the Red Sox find themselves at the bottom of the division with a 49-50 record. They've lost five of six games since the all-star break, only furthering speculation that they'll be sellers ahead of the August 2 trade deadline.

To no one's surprise, All-Stars Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Devers are the two hottest names mentioned in trade whispers. So far, the Red Sox have vocally denied interest in dealing Bogaerts or Devers.

Earlier this week, Red Sox president Sam Kennedy said there had been no trade discussions regarding either player.

On Wednesday, Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom doubled down on Kennedy's comments.

"We haven't discussed them with anybody and we're not planning to," Bloom said

While Bloom continued to deflect trade speculation surrounding Bogaerts and Devers, he didn't completely rule out the possibility.

"The best thing I can say is we're not doing our jobs if we're not considering all possibilities," Bloom said

Bogaerts, 29, is in the second year of a six-year, $120 million contract with a full no-trade clause, but he's seeking an extension.

Voted to his fourth All-Star team this season, Bogaerts is batting .317/.388/.452 with seven home runs and 39 RBI in 94 games.

Despite an offer worth $200 million, the Red Sox have failed to agree to a contract extension with Devers. The 25-year-old can become an unrestricted free agent in 2024.

The 2022 All-Star is having a career year this season, batting .324/.379/.602 with 22 home runs and 55 RBI in 87 games.
