Several Drug Charges After Emmet County Traffic Stops

Estherville, IA (KICD) — Traffic stops initiated by Emmet County Sheriff’s Deputies led to several arrests for drugs over the last week.

Early in the morning of July 16th 20 year old Caeden Sandvig of Swea City was pulled over for speeding. According to the report the deputy searched the vehicle after observing contraband. The search led to the discovery of a THC vape pen and other tobacco vape products. Sandvig was arrested for Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Tobacco Vapes both 1st Offense and cited for speeding.

On July 19th a deputy stopped a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed along Highway 9. When deputies attempted to investigate at the scene the driver, 62 year old Kevin Helfenstine of Spirit Lake, reportedly resisted directives and was placed under arrest.

When Helfenstein’s vehicle was searched marijuana and drug paraphernalia was found and he was charged with Possession of Marijuana 1st Offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, two counts of Interference With Official Acts and speeding.

At around 3 am on July 23rd deputies searched the vehicle of 18 year old Julian Garibay of Worthington during a stop along Highway 9 between Superior and Estherville. Deputies found a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia and charged him with Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of Tobacco Products as a person under 21.
