NAPOLEONVILLE, La. (BRPROUD) — Assumption Parish school resource officers conducted active shooter defense training Tuesday ahead of the first day of school. Schools throughout the state and country have conducted trainings in response to the May mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.

The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office’s SWAT team trained with school resource officers to prepare in the event of an active shooter situation.

“While we hope we never have to experience the same fate as Uvalde, Sandy Hook and all the other tragic events that claimed so may lives of our school aged children and educational staff, we must be ready to deal with any such event,” Sheriff Leland Falcon said.

The sheriff said training with school resource officers will continue regularly.
