Multis start strong at Bryan Clay

AZUSA, Calif. – Day 1 of the Bryan Clay Invitational opened on Wednesday with Fresno State's multis and steeplechase athletes in action.
 
Madison Hutton currently holds the top score among the Bulldog heptathletes with 3,021 points. The freshman sits eighth in Group B and is second among the eight Mountain West competitors in the three groups. Out of four events, Hutton posted three personal bests. The Bulldog started the day with a 14.65 in the 100-meter hurdles, and finished with back-to-back PRs in the shot put (11.51m/37-9.25) and the 200 meters (26.46).    
 
Kaja Bins (2,617) and Kaitlynn Perez (2,602) sit eighth and ninth in Group C, respectively.
 
Garrett Ostrinski leads Group C of the decathlon with 3,615 points. Through five events, the sophomore has recorded new personal bests in the long jump (6.58m/21-7.25), shot put (11.74m/38-6.25), high jump (1.97m/6-5.5) and 400 meters (50.67).
 
Shaylee Grimm competed in the final event of the night, running an 11:29.62 in the steeplechase, shaving nearly 13 seconds off her previous best. The time ranks eighth in program history.
 
The Bulldogs will continue their week in Southern California tomorrow with athletes in action in Azusa and Long Beach.
