Shirley Brock wins Senior Ice Cream Freeze-Off
The Sulphur Springs Citizen’s Center held an Ice Cream Freeze Off on Friday, July 22. Senior citizens 55 and over enjoyed homemade ice cream by the gallons. In the guise of ‘judge,’ the guests pretended to be stern critics on the 13 different flavors provided by several individuals and community health agencies.
After a couple of hours of delightful deliberation, the votes were cast for the best top three flavors of ice cream, including five honorable mentions. Shirley Brock received first place for her delicious strawberry-peach, homemade ice cream. Representing At Home Health Care, Teresa Mathews came in second for her toothsome butterfinger flavor. Tina Cox with Sunny Springs Nursing and Rehab won third with her mouthwatering pina colada ice cream.
Just as tasty, whipping up batches for honorable mention were the following: John and Mary Ellen Little; cherry flavor, Kelly Whitley with Embark; chocolate malted crunch flavor, Libby Daves with Family First Home Health; cherry cheesecake flavor, Donna Seamon with Wesley House Assisted Living; vanilla flavor and Stacey Wetzel with Mays Home Health; strawberry flavor.
A good time was had by all, with maybe a few tummy aches, but the event turned out to be a fun-filled success. The citizen’s center would like to provide a special thanks to Carriage House Manor and the Cottages for being this year’s sponsor.
