There are now three vacancies on the Knox County Board after Tuesday night’s meeting.

Letters of resignation were submitted for District One board member Rollie Paulsgrove, District Two member John Hunigan, and District Three board member Tara Wilder.

Hunigan, who indicated in his resignation letter that he was pursuing other opportunities outside of the district, says it was an honor to serve on the board.

“It is the needs of the constituents that outway my individual desires,” Hunigan said prior to the board’s vote to accept his resignation. “So, I felt that it was best that we have someone who is going to be in the district for the full term. So, that’s the main reason I am stepping down.”

Paulsgrove was appointed in 2019 to fill a vacancy left when Patrick Harlan resigned. He cited personal reasons for submitting his resignation. Paulsgrove had been battling health issues for the last few years.

Wilder was appointed in 2017 to fill a void left by Michael Nelson’s resignation and would later go on to win the seat in 2018. She told the board in a letter that circumstances allowing her to serve had changed.

When vacancies had been made previously, the parties that those members belonged to would present a nominee to replace them for the full board to vote on.

It is expected that votes to appoint new board members could come as early as next month.
