The title race between Celtic and the Rangers is expected to be very tight this time around, with there not appearing to be much between the Glasgow giants. Ange Postecoglou’s side are the defending Premiership and League Cup champions. On the other hand, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team won the Scottish Cup last season and unexpectedly managed to reach the final of the Europa League, where they lost to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Both clubs have made a lot of additions this summer but at the same time, there are question marks about both of their transfer activity.

Celtic have signed Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota, Daizen Maeda, Alexandro Bernabei, Benjamin Siegrist and Aaron Mooy permanently, and Moritz Jenz on loan from Lorient. But have they done enough to replace Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton? On the other hand, the Rangers have lost two key players in Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo.

Charlie Nicholas appears to believe though that the goalkeeping department could end up playing a big factor between the two Glasgow giants. As reported by the Scottish Daily Express, he said in his column:

"“I think they can cover as many positions as Celtic although their bench isn’t as strong. That and the goalkeeping department is where Celtic have the edge and why I think the Premiership trophy will remain at Parkhead this season.”"

The goalkeeping department at Celtic is pretty strong at this point of time. Joe Hart has been excellent since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur last summer, both with the gloves and as a leader. He has proven that he is still a league-winning goalkeeper.

On the other hand, he has some strong competition from Siegrist now, who was one of the best goalkeepers in the Scottish Premiership during his time at Dundee United. He was even linked with Manchester United and the Rangers, before completing his move to Celtic.

On the other hand, the Rangers have Allan McGregor, who is 40 years of age and received a lot of criticism last season, and Jon McLaughlin appears to be his back up option.
