State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister is calling on Education Secretary Ryan Walters to release early childhood education funding.
State lawmakers approved the funds, providing 12-million dollars for early childhood education to high-poverty children.
Walters questioned if the contract was with Tulsa public schools and said he delayed the release because of Governor Stitt's audit of the district.
He then delayed it again, this time saying he needed documentation from Tulsa Public Schools on the contract.
Because of these delays, Hofmeister took aim at Walters on Friday.
"The politics need to stop. We want to focus on getting resources the legislature has appropriated and get those in the hands of those who are delivering services to impoverished children that are infants and toddlers," Hofmeister said. "It's important to have leaders who focus on kids and families and the needs that are here. None of that would be possible without public-private partnerships."
The contract is not with Tulsa Public Schools, but with a Tulsa non-profit.
