Tanya Stephens Recruits Patra For ‘Fifty’ Off New Album ‘Some Kinda Madness’

Jamaican stars Tanya Stephens and Patra have teamed up for Fifty, the second single off Stephens’ upcoming album titled Some Kinda Madness.  The 20-track album, to be released on September 2 via Tad’s Record, will be Stephens’ tenth studio project.

Fifty finds the legendary artists offering fair warning to anyone who thinks that age might slow down the shenanigans of these two queens of the dancehall.  Tanya, who celebrated her 49th birthday on July 1, is seen hosting a grown woman’s bashment party in the official lyric video, which was directed by Romario Rodney and Rayon Smith.

“Patra is an unquestionable bad ass!” she said of the unexpected collab.

“She influenced urban culture and inspired many of us women to embrace our sensuality even as we stood in our strength. Having her bless this track feels like my personal revolution now has a soundtrack and I’m excited to step into my 50’s with this kind of energy!”

Patra broke boundaries in the 90’s with the Gold-selling album Queen Of The Pack, which topped the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, and rude gyal anthems like Romantic Call with Yo-Yo, Worker Man and Pull Up To My Bumper.

Tanya Stephens also made a name for herself in the following years with dancehall staples like Yuh Nuh Ready For This—on Dave Kelly’s Joyride riddim, Goggle and Draw fi Mi Finger, before establishing herself as one of Jamaica’s most gifted songwriters with unforgettable tunes like It’s a Pity and These Streets.

Her previous albums are Big Things A Gwaan (1994), Too Hype (1997), Work Out (1997), Ruff Rider (1998), Sintoxicated (2001), Gangsta Blues (2004), Rebelution (2006), Infalliable (2010) and Guilty (2013).

Some Kinda Madness will feature other guest appearances from Big Youth, and Nadine Sutherland, among others.  Previously released songs from the album are the steel pan-driven Zig Ziggler, the heartfelt ballad World Goes Round, and the uplifting single Diamonds In The Sun with Cedella Marley and Diana King.
