Pecos County Memorial Hospital and the Fort Stockton ISD are working together to get students vaccinated before school starts up again on Aug. 8. Each year parents attempt to register their children for school, and some find that their child is missing their required shots. This then causes the parent to scramble to get shots before school starts. Sometimes they can’t get into a doctor’s office until after school starts, and this means the student is not in class, and misses out on education until there is an updated shot record.

PCMH is helping FSISD to eliminate or mitigate this problem by providing vaccination clinics at PCMH. The clinics will take place at the southeast clinic entrance of Pecos County Memorial Hospital from 8:30-9:30 a.m. and from 3:30-4:30 p.m. every weekday between July 11 and Aug. 5. There will also be a vaccination clinic at the hospital on Wednesday, Aug. 3, from 1:30-4:30 p.m.

Vaccinations are subject to availability. Parents are encouraged to get their child their shots as soon as possible. If your child does not have a PCMH doctor, call 432-336-2291 to set up an appointment. If your child already has a PCMH doctor, they may see the doctor or go directly to the vaccination clinic.

Vaccinations required for school:

• DPT (five doses required with first dose before age four)

• Tdap (required by age 11)

• Polio (four doses with first dose before age four)

• MMR (two doses)

• Hepatitis A (two doses)

• Hepatitis B (three doses)

• Varicella (two doses)

• Meningococcal (two doses, one at age 11, one before age 16)

• Additional requirements for Pre-K Students Only:

• Pneumococcal Conjugate

• HIB (required before age five)

By state law, only those students who have their required vaccinations or have a documented provisional or religious objection are allowed to attend school. Fort Stockton ISD and Pecos County Memorial Hospital encourage parents to get their child’s shot records updated before registration for school starts on Monday, July 25. An updated shot record is required for school registration.
