It’s KCC Fair and Rodeo time!

There is no busier week of entertainment in Kit Carson each year than the last week of July. It’s time once again for the 105th Kit Carson County Fair and Rodeo, presented by KCC Memorial Hospital.

This year’s event runs July 23-30 and, as always, features a plethora of fun and excitement – along with some of the best music to be found on the Colorado Plains.

This year’s spotlight concert artist will be country music legend Neal McCoy. Among his memorable recordings are “Wink,” the 1994 release that made him a household name, “No Doubt About It” and many more.

McCoy will perform on Saturday, July 30, immediately following the final night of the rodeo. Rodeo performances will be Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The American Freestyle Rodeo bullfight competition will also be held Friday.

Other highlights during the week of activities include:

*Mini-tractor pull, Saturday, July 23, 5 p.m.

*Stock dog trials, Tuesday, July 26, 7 p.m. (new event)

*Livestock sale and buyers supper, Wednesday, July 27, 5 p.m.

Thursday is also Tough Enough to Wear Pink Day, featuring the Kit Carson County Cattlewomen’s Pink Chaps Auction taking place during the rodeo.

Also, each day will be showcasing area 4-H and FFA members and the projects they have been working on throughout the year. Make sure to stop in the project building to see all the exhibits and booths that members and clubs have built.

The legendary KCC Carousel, well over a century old and featuring a Wurlitzer Monster Military Band Organ, can be ridden for only a quarter from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day.

The week will also include live entertainment and vendors, along with a large choice of tasty food in Carousel Park.

Thursday afternoon is the always popular County Events Day, where visitors can watch local cowboys and cowgirls compete in the rodeo arena. Also that day, be sure and enjoy free barbecue, courtesy of the KCC commissioners and local sponsors.
